This Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) applies to all content you upload, post, share, or transmit through MediFinder, including text, photos, videos, audio, community posts, reviews, comments, and messages. Violations may result in immediate content removal, account suspension, or permanent termination. MediFinder is a healthcare platform — we apply elevated standards to protect users' health and safety. This AUP forms part of our Terms of Service and is legally binding.

1. Scope

This AUP governs all use of the MediFinder web and mobile services, including but not limited to:

  • Account registration and profile completion
  • Search and discovery features
  • Consultation Requests
  • Messaging with Providers
  • Community posts, comments, and replies
  • Reviews, ratings, and feedback
  • Photo uploads
  • Video uploads
  • Audio recordings
  • Live streaming (when and where enabled)
  • Provider profile content
  • Any other interactive feature

2. General Principles

  • Be respectful — disagreement is fine; personal attacks are not
  • Be truthful — share genuine experiences; do not fabricate, exaggerate, or impersonate
  • Be safe — never share information that could endanger health, life, or safety
  • Protect privacy — do not share personal information about other people without consent
  • Stay on topic — content should relate to health, healthcare, or healthcare experiences
  • Comply with the law — all applicable laws apply to your content

3. Prohibited Content — Harmful Medical Information

The following content is strictly prohibited and will be removed:

  • Claims that any unproven treatment cures, treats, or prevents a specific disease, including cancer, diabetes, autism, COVID-19, mental health conditions, or other serious conditions
  • Promotion of dangerous or illegal substances or procedures
  • Anti-vaccine misinformation contrary to established public health consensus
  • Promotion of conversion therapy or other practices recognized as harmful
  • Content encouraging users to abandon prescribed treatment without medical supervision
  • Eating disorder "thinspo" content or pro-anorexia material
  • Promotion of unlicensed or illegal medical practitioners
  • False or unsubstantiated claims about cures, miracle treatments, or guaranteed outcomes
  • Off-label promotion of medications or medical devices in violation of regulations
  • Content advocating against established public health measures during emergencies

4. Prohibited Content — Endangering Safety

  • Self-harm or suicide methods, encouragement, or detailed descriptions
  • Content glorifying or instructing on dangerous health practices
  • Instructions for self-medication with prescription drugs
  • Sale, exchange, or solicitation of prescription medications, controlled substances, or human tissue/organs
  • Promotion of dangerous DIY medical procedures
  • Encouraging users to forgo necessary emergency care

5. Prohibited Content — Child Safety

CRITICAL: CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE MATERIAL (CSAM) IS ABSOLUTELY PROHIBITED AND WILL BE IMMEDIATELY REMOVED, REPORTED TO THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR MISSING & EXPLOITED CHILDREN (NCMEC) UNDER 18 U.S.C. § 2258A, AND TO RELEVANT LOCAL AUTHORITIES.

In addition, the following are prohibited:

  • Any sexually explicit or suggestive content involving minors
  • Content that sexualizes minors, even non-explicit
  • Sharing minors' personal information, photos, or videos without documented parental/guardian consent
  • Grooming behavior or content
  • Content that could facilitate harm to minors
  • Marketing or promotion of harmful products or procedures to minors

6. Prohibited Content — Hate Speech and Harassment

  • Attacks based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, serious medical condition, or pregnancy status
  • Slurs, dehumanizing language, or calls for violence
  • Targeted harassment of any user, provider, or third party
  • Coordinated harassment campaigns
  • Doxxing — publishing private personal information of others
  • Stalking or repeated unwanted contact
  • Threats of violence or harm
  • Discrimination in any form

7. Prohibited Content — Privacy Violations

  • Sharing Personal Data or Health Data of any third party without their valid, documented consent
  • Posting names, photos, medical records, or other identifying information of patients, providers, or third parties without consent
  • Sharing private messages or correspondence
  • Disclosing minors' personal information
  • For Providers: confirming or denying patient relationships when responding to reviews
  • For Providers: disclosing treatment information in response to public reviews
  • Use of someone's name, image, or likeness for commercial purposes without consent (right of publicity violations)
  • Recording or sharing health information disclosed in private settings

8. Prohibited Content — Sexual and Adult Content

  • Sexually explicit content, pornography, or sexual solicitation
  • Sexually explicit content involving minors (strictly prohibited and reported to authorities)
  • Non-consensual intimate imagery ("revenge porn")
  • Sexual content presented in a medical-discussion context that is gratuitous or unrelated to legitimate healthcare conversation
  • Solicitation for sexual services
  • Adult-oriented advertising

9. Prohibited Content — Violence and Graphic Material

  • Graphic violence, gore, or disturbing imagery without clear medical-educational justification
  • Threats of violence against any person, group, or institution
  • Glorification of violence, terrorism, or criminal acts
  • Content that incites violence
  • Animal cruelty content
  • Graphic medical procedure videos without context, content warning, and clear educational purpose

10. Prohibited Content — Illegal Activity

  • Content depicting, promoting, or facilitating illegal acts
  • Sale or solicitation of illegal goods or services
  • Copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property infringement
  • Pirated content, software, or unauthorized derivative works
  • Content related to trafficking of persons, organs, drugs, or prohibited goods
  • Fraudulent schemes, including health insurance fraud
  • Money laundering or financial crimes

11. Prohibited Content — Spam, Scams, and Manipulation

  • Unsolicited commercial content, advertising, or promotion
  • Repetitive content posted in multiple locations
  • Phishing, scams, or fraudulent schemes
  • Fake reviews, ratings, or testimonials
  • Vote manipulation, coordinated inauthentic behavior, or fake engagement
  • Multi-level marketing, pyramid schemes, or related solicitations
  • Solicitation, payment, incentive offer, or inducement to post, modify, or remove a review
  • Use of automated tools to generate content, follows, votes, or engagement
  • Keyword spamming or attempts to manipulate search ranking

12. Prohibited Content — Impersonation and Misrepresentation

  • Pretending to be a healthcare professional you are not
  • Impersonating any specific real person or organization
  • Misrepresenting your credentials, affiliations, or qualifications
  • Creating accounts to evade prior suspensions or bans
  • Using a deceased person's identity
  • Creating fake profiles or sock puppet accounts
  • False flag accounts pretending to represent MediFinder

13. Prohibited Content — Off-Topic and Disruptive

  • Content unrelated to health, healthcare, or healthcare experiences
  • Political content unrelated to health policy
  • Religious proselytizing
  • Trolling, flame wars, or deliberate disruption
  • Excessive cross-posting

14. Specific Rules for Photo and Video Uploads

14.1. General Requirements

  • You must own all rights to the content or have documented permission to upload
  • All identifiable persons in the content must have provided documented consent
  • Minors must have documented parental or legal guardian consent
  • Content must comply with all rules in this AUP
  • Maximum file size and supported formats are displayed at the time of upload and may change
  • EXIF metadata is stripped automatically by default to protect privacy

14.2. Healthcare Procedure Videos

Educational medical content is permitted but must:

  • Have clear medical-educational purpose
  • Include appropriate content warnings before graphic material
  • Not violate patient privacy rights
  • Not promote unlicensed practitioners
  • Comply with applicable healthcare advertising laws

14.3. Before/After Photos

Before/after photos require special care due to healthcare advertising regulations:

  • Documented patient consent is required for every photo of a patient
  • Photos must accurately represent typical results (not selectively cherry-picked extreme cases)
  • No misleading editing, retouching, or alteration that changes the apparent result
  • Turkey: must comply with Sağlıkta Tanıtım ve Bilgilendirme Yönetmeliği — significant restrictions apply
  • United States: must comply with FTC advertising rules and state medical board restrictions
  • European Union: must comply with national medical advertising rules of each Member State

14.4. Live Streaming

Where live streaming features are offered:

  • All rules in this AUP apply to live streams in real time
  • Operators may be removed mid-stream for violations
  • Streams are not exempt from copyright, defamation, or privacy laws
  • Streams that depict illegal activity will be terminated and reported

14.5. Profile Photos and Avatars

  • Use only photos you have the right to use
  • Provider profile photos should accurately represent the licensed practitioner
  • No misleading stock photos for Provider profiles
  • No offensive, sexual, or inappropriate avatars

15. Healthcare-Specific Rules

15.1. No Personalized Medical Advice from Unverified Users

Only verified healthcare Providers may offer personalized medical guidance. Other users may share their personal experiences but must not give clinical advice such as "you should take this drug" or "you don't need surgery". Lay users should clearly mark personal experiences as personal experiences.

15.2. Provider Reviews

  • Reviews must be based on direct, genuine experience
  • Be specific about facts; avoid unfounded accusations
  • Do not include defamatory or knowingly false statements
  • Reviewers should not have a conflict of interest (current/former employees, competitors, family)
  • Providers may not solicit, incentivize, pay for, or coerce reviews
  • Disputes about clinical outcomes should be raised through appropriate medical complaint channels in addition to (or instead of) public reviews

15.3. Provider Conduct

  • Providers participating in the community must comply with their professional obligations
  • Providers must not solicit patients off-platform via community posts
  • Providers must not provide patient-specific clinical advice in public posts
  • Providers must not respond to reviews in a manner that confirms or denies a patient relationship or discloses clinical information
  • Providers must not threaten, intimidate, or retaliate against reviewers
  • Providers must not offer compensation in exchange for review modification or removal

15.4. Sensitive Topics

Discussions of mental health, suicide, self-harm, eating disorders, sexual abuse, addiction, terminal illness, and similar sensitive topics are permitted but subject to special safety standards:

  • Include trigger warnings where appropriate
  • Never provide methods of self-harm or suicide
  • MediFinder may automatically append crisis resource information to such posts
  • Content glorifying self-harm or suicide will be removed

16. Anti-Manipulation Rules

16.1. Ratings and Reviews

  • No fake, paid, or solicited reviews
  • No review trading or coordination
  • No reviews by employees, competitors, family members, or persons with conflicts of interest
  • No incentives offered for posting, modifying, removing, or refraining from posting reviews
  • Failure to comply may result in account termination and public consumer alerts on Provider profiles

16.2. Search Ranking and Visibility

  • No keyword spamming or content manipulation aimed at altering search results
  • No coordinated inauthentic behavior to inflate visibility
  • No artificial engagement (fake likes, follows, comments)
  • MediFinder reserves the right to adjust search ranking algorithms at any time without notice

16.3. Automated Behavior

  • No use of bots, scripts, or scraping tools
  • No use of automated tools to generate content or engagement
  • No mass account creation
  • No DDoS or denial-of-service attacks

17. Technical Restrictions

  • Do not interfere with or disrupt the Services
  • Do not bypass any technical limit, filter, rate limit, or security measure
  • Do not reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to access source code
  • Do not introduce malware, viruses, or harmful code
  • Do not access the Services via unauthorized means
  • Do not use the Services in violation of API rate limits or terms
  • Do not extract data using automated means without express written authorization
  • Do not use the Services to develop competing products

18. AI and Machine Learning Restrictions

Unless you have express prior written authorization from MediFinder:

  • You may not use any Content available through the Services to train, fine-tune, or develop any AI or machine learning model
  • You may not scrape or extract Content for AI training purposes
  • You may not feed Provider data, reviews, or User Content to AI systems for commercial purposes
  • You may not use the Services to circumvent any AI safety measure
  • You may not attempt prompt injection, jailbreaking, or similar attacks on AI features within the Services
  • AI-generated content uploaded as User Content must be clearly disclosed as AI-generated where it could mislead users

19. Anonymity and Pseudonymity

  • Anonymous and pseudonymous participation is allowed for community discussion
  • Providers must use verified identities to participate in their professional capacity
  • Anonymity does not exempt you from this AUP or applicable law
  • We may disclose user identity in response to valid legal process or to prevent imminent harm

20. Enforcement

20.1. Range of Actions

  • Content removal or restriction of visibility
  • Formal warning
  • Temporary restriction of features (posting, uploading, messaging)
  • Temporary account suspension (24 hours to 30 days)
  • Permanent account termination
  • Referral to law enforcement for illegal content
  • Public consumer alerts on Provider profiles (for repeated review manipulation)
  • Civil legal action for material breaches

20.2. Discretion

MediFinder enforces this AUP at its sole and absolute discretion. We may take action on content that we deem objectionable even where it does not clearly violate a stated rule. Decisions about timing, severity, and methods of enforcement are entirely within our discretion.

20.3. Repeat Infringers

  • Accounts with repeated violations will be terminated
  • For copyright violations, three valid takedown notices within 12 months result in account termination
  • Banned users may not create new accounts

20.4. Appeals

  • You may appeal enforcement decisions by emailing [email protected] with subject "Appeal Request" within 30 days
  • Appeals are reviewed by personnel not involved in the original decision
  • Decisions will be communicated within 14 days
  • EU users have additional rights under EU Digital Services Act Article 20

21. Reporting Violations

  • Use the in-platform "Report" button on any content
  • Email [email protected] with subject "Abuse Report" for serious or urgent matters
  • Email [email protected] with subject "Trust and Safety" for Trust & Safety matters
  • For copyright infringement: see our Content & Copyright Policy and use subject "DMCA Notice"
  • For emergency situations involving imminent threats to life, contact local emergency services FIRST
  • False or malicious reports may themselves result in enforcement action

22. Automated Content Scanning

MediFinder uses automated systems to detect and act on prohibited content, including:

  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) detection
  • Malware and virus scanning
  • Spam and abuse detection
  • Copyright matching
  • Hate speech and harassment detection
  • Health misinformation detection

Automated decisions may be appealed via Section 20.4. You consent to automated scanning of any content you upload, by uploading content.

23. Transparency

  • MediFinder may publish a transparency report summarizing content actions and government requests
  • Where required by law (such as EU DSA Article 17), we provide statements of reasons for content removal decisions
  • Users in the EU have rights under DSA Articles 14-24 (notice and action, statement of reasons, appeals, out-of-court dispute resolution)

24. Changes to This AUP

  • We may update this AUP from time to time
  • Updates are published at medifinder.com/acceptable-use
  • Material changes are notified via in-platform notification
  • Continued use after publication constitutes acceptance
