About
Established in Miami in 1918 as a 13-bed community hospital, Jackson Memorial Hospital is one of the largest public hospitals in the United States and the primary teaching hospital of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Governed by the Public Health Trust on behalf of Miami-Dade County, it operates as a safety net hospital serving county residents regardless of ability to pay. The campus houses Ryder Trauma Center, the only adult and pediatric Level I trauma center in Miami-Dade County, the Miami Transplant Institute, the Miami Burn Center, Holtz Children's Hospital, and the Christine E. Lynn Rehabilitation Center for the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. It is one of the few hospitals in Florida performing every type of organ transplant.
