About

Halifax District Hospital opened in Daytona Beach on January 3, 1928, established by the state legislature as a special taxing district and safety net hospital with 125 beds and a 22-member nursing staff. The United States Army took control of the hospital in December 1942 and used it as a military infirmary; it returned to community use as an acute care general hospital in 1947. In the mid-1980s it was designated the area's only Level II trauma center and renamed Halifax Medical Center, later becoming Halifax Health. The Daytona Beach medical center offers all major medical and surgical services, with a 24-hour emergency department housing the trauma center, and centers for cardiology, neurosciences, orthopedics, oncology, transplant services, women's and infant health with a neonatal ICU, behavioral services, inpatient rehabilitation and a comprehensive stroke center.
